Algebra readiness hw#3 question

Hi, teacher

I need help on 2-3 question 6/7, 2-5 question 4/7.

2-3:6:The average closed the day before at 10,812. What was the index at noon? Q:How to calculate index?

2-3:7:By the end of the day, did the Average gain or lose value? Explain your reasoning. Q:I know nothing about STOCKS.

2-5:4.SKYDIVING The time an object is in freefall is given by the formula t=v/(2g) where v is the final velocity, g is gravitational constant of 32 ft/sec2 and t is the time of the fall. A skydiver jumps out of a plane at 6000 feet. How long does it take to reach the final velocity of -96 feet per second?

Q:Can speed be negative? The time can be distance 6000 feet divided by speed v; v can be calculated from the given formula v=t*(2g)=64t; then what is t the time being asked? Totally confused.

2-5:7.POPULATION The enrollment at Davis Middle School dropped by 60 students over a 5-year period. The enrollment dropped by the same amount each year. What was the yearly change?

Q:Is the answer as simple as 12=60/5?

Thanks,

Ethan

2-3:6/7:Could you post any more context here that would help answer the question?

2-5.4: Note that the question is talking about velocity, not speed. Velocity is the speed of something in a given direction, so when an object is directed downward, its velocity is negative. In the question, t refers to the time needed to reach the final velocity, so you are trying to calculate t based on the other variables.

2-5.7: It could be! Don’t overthink the question.
