I was looking at 9.2 and the solution, and it pretty much doesn’t try to explain anything. It just says abc+acd+bcd+acd = a certain number. It doesn’t show how, and I can’t find it anywhere on the book on why that would happen.

Explanation as to why this works?

The solution applies Vieta's Theorem (general version).  Look at the beginning of Chapter 9 for the theorem, and let $n=4$ to see what is the application of the theorem.
