Is the question worded wrong? 8/17 6th graders in olympaid and 8/17 olympaid are sixth graders are two completely different things.

Hi Eric,

The question should be okay. The phrase "Among those who attend Math Olympiad Classes, $\frac{8}{17}$ are in 6th grade" means that $\frac{8}{17}$ of the students who attend Math Olympiad Classes are in 6th grade. Similarly $\frac{9}{23}$ of the students who attend Math Olympiad Classes are in 7th grade.

We also know that the middle school contains $780$ students in total. All the students in the Math Olympiad Classes go to this school.

It may seem like there isn't quite enough information to solve the problem, but as a hint, remember that there can't be a fractional amount of students!
